At this time, total width of green open space in Jakarta is only 9.8 percent of city’s area which is 661.52 square meters. That amount is still far from the minimum limit of 30 percent as set in Law No. 26/2007 on Spatial.

Jakarta Vice Governor Basuki T Purnama said that one of the locations which has been acquisitioned to be turned into green open space is located in Kemang, South Jakarta. On the two-hectare land, a reservoir and some other public facilities are planned to be built.

“We’re targeting to add 40-100 hectares of green open space next year. For that, we encourage the entrepreneurs who are going to level up their buildings to buy green open spaces,” he stated after trees planting activity in Hutan Kota Penjaringan Park, North Jakarta, Saturday (9/27).

Basuki is optimistic that with City Budget (APBD) reaching Rp 72 trillion, Jakarta Provincial Government would be able to transform new purchased lands into green open spaces.

“Moreover, our APBD in 2016 is predicted reaching Rp 100 trillion,” he said.

True, Jakarta is currently working to restore the lost green open spaces from the city. Some efforts are conducted to realize it, including by building parks in the areas of Pluit Reservoir (North Jakarta) and Riario Reservoir (East Jakarta).
